The Neptunes Challenge

The Neptunes Challenge is a new format, "selective" spearfishing competition.

This is a great concept as it will allow all Neptune's to compete whilst engaging in either a social environment or in any state wide competition.

The aim of this 'stand alone' competition is to promote involvement of all Neptune members even if they don't compete in regular club competitions.

The basic idea is for each diver to attempt to capture ten separate species over a six month period, from 1st January until 30th June, each year.  Points will be awarded based on weight (see rules). The ten species targeted can be readily speared in NSW waters. Species include Bonito, Bream, Flathead (any), Kingfish (any), Leather Jacket (any), Luderick, Morwong (any), Rock Blackfish, Salmon, Silver Trumpeter.

Each competitor can only present two of each species over the six month period, so it is a game of strategy (No more than two fish of each species will be accepted).

The weigh-in of the fresh catch and the subsequent application for consideration must follow the following procedure:

  1. Fish speared in any competition - An application must be completed in full and must be accompanied by a copy of the score sheet. Both documents should be posted, emailed or faxed to the Challenge organizer (details listed below).
  2. Fish speared in a social event - An application must be completed in full.  The fish should be weighed at the weigh stations listed on the application sheet. A digital photo of the fish being held by the competitor must be emailed to the Challenge organizer challenge@newcastleneptunes.com.au The application should be posted, emailed or faxed to the Challenge organizer (details listed below).

NOTE: All applications must be received within 4 weeks of capture.(late applications will not be accepted). Applications received after 30th June will not be accepted.
You must be a current financial member of the Newcastle Neptunes to be eligible. Obviously all state Fisheries regulations need to be adhered to and only fish taken whilst freediving are allowed.
